PITTSBURGH — A day later than expected, reliever Miguel Castro is back in the Yankees bullpen for Wednesday night’s series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates after missing four games while on paternity leave.
The righty returned home to the Dominican Republic for the birth of a child.
Castro, 27, is 4-0 with a 3.51 ERA in 30 games with the Yankees. He’s struck out 27 over 25 2/3 innings, but walked 12.
The Yankees’ opened up a spot on their 26-man roster for Castro by dropping right-hander Ryan Weber, who was designated for assignment.
Weber, 31, had been DFA’d by the Yankees on June 17, then opted to remain in the organization as a non-roster player after clearing waivers. In two appearances for the Yankees over two stints, he allowed one run on two hits in 4 2/3 innings for a 1.93 ERA.
