Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 6, Cardinals 5

The Cubs won a comeback game, an extra-innings game, AND a series in St. louis all today!

Here’s what wound up being the game-winner in the 10th, off the bat of Willson Contreras and featuring some great speed from Nelson Velazquez:

I’m not sure what’s going to happen with Alec Mills, but it was another fruitless outing for him. In years past, he’s dominated righties to the point that you lived with his struggles against lefties and the occasional BABIP clunker. But this year, in a small sample, he’s getting hit by everyone. And the ability to swing in and out of the rotation and bullpen has value only if you’re succeeding in at LEAST one of those roles.

Every pitcher after Mills kept the Cardinals scoreless, so it was actually one of the more impressive bullpen performances of the year. Matt Swarmer – finally moved into the multi-inning relief role – was fantastic, and David Robertson looked RIDICULOUS at the end.

The Cubs mounted their middle-innings comeback, erasing the big deficit built up against Mills, entirely in the 4th inning (admittedly after starter Jack Flaherty had to leave early due to shoulder tightness):

Great comeback win for the Cubs, and it always feels good to take a series from the Cardinals in St. Louis, no matter what else is happening in the season.

Warning: visual joke incoming from shenanigans elsewhere in baseball today.
